What Makes Your Heart Sing?

Updated: May 20

Why True Connection Begins Within

Have you ever looked around your life and thought: This isn’t me? That quiet whisper you keep ignoring—what if it’s your truest self, calling you home?

“Connection isn't found—it's remembered.”

It took me a while to get connected to myself.

It all began when I started realizing that the life I was living—and the things I was doing—weren’t truly me.

There had been signals before. The first ones started in my childhood. When I was 10 years old, we lived in California for a year. My mother was a teacher and worked there for that year. As a child from a post-communist country, this was 1995—just six years after the revolution—it felt like flying to Mars.

The experience was incredibly rich from many different perspectives. That year was amazing. Yet I also looked forward to coming back home. But something unexpected happened there.

From that moment on, I could never quite fit in.

That experience cracked something in me—something I couldn’t name at the time. It wasn’t conscious, but the feeling stayed.

Later, another strong signal came when I started university. I had chosen the field I wanted—despite my parents’ disagreement—but I still couldn’t bear to stay. It felt like such a waste of time. Everything seemed rigid, disconnected from the real world.

But the family patterns and mental algorithms were strong, so like everyone else in my family, I finished university, even though it felt heavy and completely misaligned.

During that time, I started my first business. I worked hard—daily—pushing through boundaries and obstacles, learning, leading, taking responsibility. But after a few years, I started to realize something was wrong. It wasn’t me. It wasn’t what I truly wanted.

I loved entrepreneurship and creating projects—and I still do—but the way it was done didn’t resonate. And the way I was… wasn’t me.

So, I began the journey back to myself.

It took years. As many of you who’ve been on a similar path know, it’s quite a ride. Not easy, but absolutely worth it.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned over those years is this: I need to take care of myself first.

More than that, I’ve learned that intentional, conscious self-care is what keeps us connected.

Some days, we’re more connected than others. That’s life. But the key is to stay connected as much as possible.

Why?

Because that’s the place we create our real life from. That place within. Our energy.

When we’re connected, we feel who we truly are. We hear the call. The guidance. Our energy becomes the engine of our life.

So I ask you: What makes your heart sing? Are you connected?

In my book Simple Self-Care Activities for Women, I share 21 practices that support me in staying grounded, energized, and truly me. Resonates? Grab your copy now.
